The “I Got You” Gala will raise money to get people in recovery back to work. The Gino Macchio Foundation is the leader on Long Island in creating Recovery Friendly Work Places and matching men and women in Recovery with a good stable job. The Gala’s mission is trifold, raise money to help LI employers hire People in Recovery, promote Recovery Friendly Work Places, and remove the stigma of Recovery.
“Employment is essential to living a life in recovery” says Sabrina Macchio, President of the GMF and sister of Gino Macchio. Research shows that working helps people overcome substance misuse & stay sober, instilling meaning in their lives & strengthening the desire to remain sober. The GMF works with local industry, community stakeholders and individuals to perform the following tasks:
Engage and work with Recovery Friendly Businesses open to hiring individuals in early recovery.
Make a financial contribution towards the salary of hired individuals in the first year of employment.
Provide employees in recovery financial support and tools to remove barriers to employment.
Partner with substance recovery organizations & other groups who provide treatment to those in recovery.
Ken Daly, Executive Director of the GMF says, “Recovery is good for business! Employers are becoming more proactive in recognizing the economic and cultural benefits of being better informed about substance use and ways to support talent who are seeking help or in recovery.” Ken goes on to say, “the money raised at the “I Got You” Gala goes directly to hiring people in recovery. The GMF funds 6 months of salary to LI employers to hire people in Recovery.
Debra Macchio, Vice President of the GMF and mother of Gino says, “From our first introduction, and every day since, Delores has been a blessing to our Foundation. She has shared her lifetime of experience and leadership with us every step of the way. Delores’ guidance has been a gift from God to those we have and will help in the future.”
Steve Macchio, father of Gino, says “We saw a need to help people struggling with substance abuse and a need to help LI companies find good quality stable employees, the GMF’s Put Recovery to Work program solves both problems one soul, one job at a time.”
